Day 2- Back at Tender Hearts!!!

Day 2 - We started the day at 9:30 where we left Subang around 9:35 so that we can reach Tender Hearts earlier. When we reach the house, we were sruprised by her as she bringing bags of plastic filled with Nasi Lemak to serve us breakfast as she knew we young  adults nowadays  do not take serious of our breakfast eating habits properly before starting out the day, With that, we thanked her for her generosity and ate the Nasi Lemak. It was really delicious. To be thoughtful to have boys around, she knew a pack of Nasi Lemak for the Boys won't be enough, so she had bought extra Nasi Lemak for them. The boys quietly thanked her, and quickly ate up the food.
After breakfast, we continue baking the cookies for the project that we are assigned with and finish baking and packing the cookies in the total number of 760 packets at the end of the day. We talked with Ms Sharon while baking and she shared some life experience and advises while we were communicating.

We managed to finishing packing 760 packets of cookies at the end of the day and Ms.Sharon was happy having us. It felt like a short period of time, but actually it took us about 12 and half hours to complete baking 760 packets of cookies for the projects. I enjoy baking with these special kids and also at the same time learned a few new things through out these community service. As we live on an average basis with average people, these special kids that seems to be normal are the ones that we have to give special attention the most. Not in the the way like privilege like a star but special attention to help them survive with the things that they may lack in. I also learned to be more patient and also to not take things for granted when we can do normal task easily. I hope that this community organisation that helps special kids will be a greater success in the future and becomes bigger to help more of the special kids in Malaysia. As the awareness for these kids are not that known, more of these organisation should be supported and brought up to the community so that people who needs help know where to go find for help.Thank you for the great opportunity.:)

Day 1 - at Tender Hearts!

After contacting Ms. Sharon ( the founder of the organisation) , we decided to do our community service during the university mid-semester break.

Day 1- 14 October 2017, Saturday , at 1.30 pm my group mate Jeffrey came to fetch my friend and I  and started the journey to the Tender Hearts organisation. It took us about 10-15 minutes from Subang Jaya to USJ area. As we reach the Tender hearts house, we were briefly explained on the project that were on going and our duty in helping the special kids. We introduced our self to the kids and then we started helping. The projects that we were assigned was to make a total of 760 packs of cookies that contains both vanilla and the chocolate flavour for a wedding gift.
For the first task, I helped the kids in shaping and baking the cookies in the oven. As the organisation is just at the start up level, they only had two ovens to bake these cookies. In other words, their equipment and facilities are limited for these kids to use. they are all basic equipment used to baked in homes. While waiting for the cookies to be bake, we were cooling the cookies and also at the same time packing the cookies in the packaging provided.

In the picture above, we can see that the cookies are sealed in order to prevent the cookies from being soggy and spoiled due to the exposure to air. we helped the kids by guiding them and assisting them in completing their task.

We also communicate with the special kids about themselves and more about their life while preparing the cookies. I get to know that they used to be students in the culinary areas and they really love baking.
Shaping and pressing the cookie dough.
Cookies ready to be baked!!
Helping each other during the packaging process while discussing what can be done to improve the flow process of baking for the special kids.

As the time goes by, 4 hours ended so quickly and it was time to go home. We discussed about tomorrow itinerary with Ms.Sharon and decided to call it a day. We thank her for having us there and she was glad that we helped her and made the kids happy. Finish Day 1 community service at 6 pm and left the compound after we finish cleaning the house.
